We've got two of our three economics panel members confirmed, and wanted to share their recent research.

Adam Ashcraft, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, recently wrote a paper entitled, "The Federal Home Loan Bank System:The Lender of Next-to-Last Resort?"

Paul Willen, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston published a couple of pertinent articles in 2008. The first is "Negative Equity and Foreclosure: Theory and Evidence," and the second is "Subprime Facts: What (We Think) We Know about the Subprime Crisis and What We Don’t."

Credit Risk Panel at the Midwinter Conference

Never has a Credit Risk Panel been so relevant and significant to all of us. We are very fortunate to have the Gerson Lehrman Group sponsoring this session. The GLG Financial & Business Services Practice provides customized access to a global network of over 19,000 industry professionals in the Financial Services and Insurance industries and the business services that support them.

Financial & Business Services experts include current and former executives from Fortune 1000 companies, product structure specialists, exchange professionals, mortgage brokers, independent consultants, actuaries, and industry thought leaders. Beyond their financial support of the session and the Conference, they contacted relevant professionals in their database and helped us identify the key people who could add value to the program.
Our first Credit Risk panelist is Ron Cathecart. While at WAMU, Mr. Cathcart had oversight of all aspects of risk in the organization including, credit, market, operational, compliance, regulatory and internal audit. Mr. Cathcart built a large team for assessing risk on the mortgage portfolio, and was instrumental in policy decisions relating to exiting the subprime market. Bob Emmerich is our second speaker. Mr. Emmerich was Chief Risk Officer at National City Bank, and in his role was responsible for asset quality of mortgages and other financial services product offered by his firm.

Enrico Dallavechia, our third panelist, comes to us from Fannie Mae. As Chief Risk Officer to the GSE, Dallavechia had overall responsibility for credit, market, counterparty, and operational risk oversight for all business units within Fannie Mae.

Our moderator, Dave Nole, is Chief Risk Officer for Consumer Banking at Wachovia. Beyond his extensive insight into assessment and decisioning concerning risk at his enterprise, Mr. Nole is a “Conference Veteran” and will provide his own thoughts and comments as well as moderating the session.

James B. Lockhart, III Confirms His Participation

Our keynote Saturday late afternoon presentation will be called, “An Evening with James Lockhart.” In addition to being the Director of FHFA (formerly OFHEO), and currently sitting as the Chairman of the Federal Housing Oversight Board, Mr. Lockhart is a fantastic speaker. Hear directly from the individual responsible for governing Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, along with creating a world class governmental organization that has had communications as its priority.

Good Morning! This is Andy with your Opening Day snow report for Friday, December 5, 2008.

We are open! The Canyons is open for the 2008-2009 winter season today. We have received 1" new snow in the past 24 hours and 4.5" in the past 2 days.

Today we will be opening with 3 runs and 2 lifts on Saddleback and High Meadow. We have a mid-mountain base depth of 15", and conditions are packed powder and machine groomed snow. Our snowmakers are cranking out the machine made snow around the clock as temperatures allow to make sure your skiing and riding experience is a pleasurable one.

For those of you looking to get your jib on, 3 terrain park features can be found in Painted Horse.

The Groomer's Pick of the day is Kokopelli, located off of the Saddleback Express lift.

Looks like there is some snow in the forecast for Monday and possibly Thursday. Thanks to our Snowmakers & Groomers (and with luck, a little help from Mother Nature), we will be expanding our open terrain soon.

Weather today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Southwest wind between 5 and 8 mph.

The Flight of The Canyons gondola will be open from 8:45am - 4:00pm today. That's how we're going to get you up on to the mountain so you can enjoy Opening Day.

Lift tickets: $49 for a full day adult and $29 for a full day junior or senior.

Red Pine Lodge is open for food service and restroom facilities.

Canyon Mountain Sports and One Sweet Ride snowboard shop are open in the Resort Village.

And if you need your gear tuned up, take it over to Solid Edge Tuning & Repair shop & they'll have your gear running like new in no time. Open 8-5 daily.

Park City Art Gallery Stroll on February 27th

Park City offers the perfect setting to enjoy fine art in dozens of attractive galleries.

Take part in the Gallery Stroll on February 27th, a wonderful evening of art, hors d'oeuvres and live music. The Stroll begins at the Kimball Art Center located at 638 Park Avenue, in the heart of historic Park City, and runs from 5 to 9 pm. Twenty-three galleries participate each month, many of the galleries have artists on hand to meet the public. Twenty-one of the galleries are located on historic Main Street, two on nearby Iron Horse Drive, and one gallery can be found at Redstone in Kimball Junction.

MBA Panel Now Posted

We’ve been very fortunate to have John Courson gather together the leadership of the MBA for their panel at our event in February. Speaker biographies are now available on line for David Kittle, Chairman of the MBA; Rob Story, Chairman-Elect and Steve O’Connor, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, along with John Courson’s. John is going to moderate the panel and using the allegory of the Wizard of Oz for a theme, discuss the tornado whose winds have affected us all, where we are now (hence the title – We are not in Kansas anymore!), and how the MBA feels we will find our “home” again.

The conference brochures arrived (at last) today. As we have had all the envelopes and letters ready to go, we should be stuffing and stamping, and will hopefully get them out before the office closes. The brochures are a little late; but they look great, and the Conference is really coming together by leaps and bounds already.
